Let’s just ignore how long its been.
Year in sport!
I’ve never had a year of swimming like this. This was the year of the pool. I was more consistent than I’ve ever been in 11 years of triathlon. And it showed! My CSS is down to 1:43. I PRed the swim at my last race. All really good stuff. Running and biking has been consistent as well. I’ve really been focused the last few months on getting my long bikes & runs more efficient by slowing it down.
How have I been doing that? Well, I have a coach! I’ve also had a coach for the past year and its been a great experience. Dave Mudek of Triple Victor Sports has been guiding my training and I’ve enjoyed having the constant feedback. Now that I have a full year under his guidance and I’m starting to see some real changes in my performance, I’m very optimistic about next year’s races.
I shouldn’t discount what I did this year either. I PRed at both the 5k and 5 mile distances. I ran a 23:38 5k and a 39:48 5 miler! I did have my first real failure at any distance though. I did IMTX for the 2nd time this year and I DNFed, which I have never done in a race before. It was disappointing but I took a lot of lessons out of it that I’ve really focused on this year around nutrition & hydration.
And to end the year, I’ve really focused on getting back to race weight (and also a weight that I feel better about). Happy to say, I’m there!
Other Stuff
I love to write (which you wouldn’t know from my failure to keep up my blog) and I’ve been hard at work on a novel for the past 18 months. I’m on the first revision of it. No more details on that though until I’m further along. I do want it out in the ether though.
One of my other hobbies is aquariums and I finally was able to set up a big planted aquarium this year in my office. I’ve wanted a big Amazon river inspired tank for about 20 years and I’ve had a couple tries in the past but for various reasons, they never really stuck. But this year I set up a beautiful 75G acrylic aquarium and I really did it right.
I’m going to keep this short for now, just happy to have fixed the blog and we’ll see if I can keep it going.
